UI vocal performance and theater student crowned Miss Iowa 2011

UI sophomore vocal performance and theater student Jessica Pray was crowned Miss Iowa 2011 Saturday, June 11 at the Adler Theatre in Davenport.

Pray, a resident of Johnston and serving as Miss Muscatine, will begin a year of service continuing to promote her platform of “Saving Lives Through Blood Donation.” She will also travel to Las Vegas in January to compete for the title of Miss America.

Pray, 18, is training in opera and classical voice, and her career ambition is to be a singer with an opera company. She performed  “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess in the talent portion of the Miss Iowa pageant.

This spring she had the understudy role to the lead of Adina in the Martha-Ellen Tye Opera Theater’s spring production of The Elixir of Love. Pray is also member of the international classical crossover trio MODA, formed by concert promoter Mel Bush.
